Tanzania Family Safari

Family Safari Experience

Tanzania is a fantastic choice for family safaris, particularly for children aged six and above, as it offers rich wildlife experiences while being mindful of health considerations common in malaria regions. The country is renowned for its incredible concentration of animals, especially along the popular Northern Circuit where game drives are lively, scenic, and among the most affordable in Africa for families. Traveling in a group makes safaris even more cost-effective since vehicle expenses are shared, and families can also explore the southern Selous Game Reserve for a quieter, equally rewarding experience. Many lodges across northern and southern Tanzania are well designed for families, providing interconnecting rooms, family suites, swimming pools, spacious communal areas, and even private activities tailored for children, with the added bonus of combining a safari adventure with a relaxing beach holiday in Zanzibar.

What to Experience

Embarking on a Tanzania family safari is a gateway to a world of awe-inspiring experiences. Picture your family surrounded by the vast Serengeti plains, witnessing the breathtaking Great Migration, where wildebeests and zebras create a mesmerizing spectacle. Guides share captivating tales of animal behavior, while visits to local villages offer insights into rich cultures, igniting curiosity and understanding in younger hearts.

The adventure is woven with moments of shared awe—a golden sunset over the savannah, the crackling of a campfire under a star-studded sky, and the laughter of your family as you bond over the wonders of nature. In Tanzania, every step of your safari is a chapter in an unforgettable family odyssey, filled with discovery, connection, and the sheer beauty of the wild.

Best Time for a Family Safari

Even though Tanzania is a great place to visit year round, arguably the best time to go on a family safari holiday in Tanzania is between the months of January to March. This period of time marks the end of the highly crowded holiday season, making it a great time to explore the parks with your family. Also, you can find a lot of off-road activities and predator-prey action in the Southern Serengeti during that time of year.

The months of January, February and March are the peak of the calving season. The wildebeest herds arrive and stay in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu plains from the end of December until the end of March, with most wildebeest calves born in a short window around February. Then around May/June, they start their great migration north.
